The Good, The Gad, and The Ugly

Marcie Jacobs - Health Care Activist
Marcie Jacobs – Health Care Activist

New,  Exciting and Potentially great good is being brought to this world by new  medical inventions, possibilities and already in production products.  The consumer will be able to take control of their medical care, decide what is right for them and avoid the pitfalls of many who blindly trusted.

Gadolinium is a metal, a toxin to humans that is used to enhance MRI’s.  Unfortunately, it rarely leaves the body and instead causes long term great harm to humans.  It is not excluded that the deposits can trigger neuro degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

MIT and HARVARD have come out with a new investment vehicle for securitized loans.  These will be loans to finances ‘cures’.  They will be called health care loans.  Do you think that any patients with a serious disease and one of these loans will ever be able to pay it off?

Fierce Advocacy http://www.fierceadvocacy.comGary Votour who has a Masters degree in Health Administration will tell his story and discuss Informed Consent – What is it? What questions to ask? He has only one goal  – To improve the hospitalization outcomes of patients by being their personal fierce advocate.

Gary Votour’s wife Lynn was diagnosed and operated on for a rare congenital form of bone cancer in her neck. The resultant surgeries went wrong and the surgeon later refused to talk to Gary. Gary and Lynn, his wife had forgiven the surgeon but did want greater understanding of what happened. Upon the suggestion of a medical professional Gary posted an open letter to the surgeon online and was sued in an attempt to be silenced for telling the truth. See Boston Globe Article: http://tinyurl.com/jj422la

Since then Gary has dedicated his life to helping others avoid the mistakes he and his wife had made. Gary helps Advocees find second opinions, give truly Informed consent, protect their autonomy while hospitalized, mediate conflicts with providers, assist with discharge planning and support end of life decisions. He does all of this with only one goal – To improve the hospitalization outcomes of his Advocees by being their personal Fierce Advocate.

And when they do act against a physician, the physician’s patients are not likely to be informed unless the physician has to close his practice. This is unacceptable. With this type of behavior there is little wonder that medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death.
